SEVIS and Travel
A Guide for J1 Participants
Once you have arrived in the USA, it is VITAL you register in SEVIS.
This is a legal requirement and failure to do so may mean your programme is cancelled and you have to return home.
For CIEE Participants
Log into your BEACON account and follow the prompts to register via your online account.
If you have problems doing this, please call CIEE on 1-888-268-6245
For Pan Atlantic Participants
Email your US Pan Atlantic representative with the details of where you are staying
Travel outside the USA during your J1 Intern or J1 Trainee Programme
You must inform your Legal Sponsor well in advance of any travel outside the USA
This will allow them to register the dates you are planning on being outside the country and authorise you for travel.
If you do not do this, you may not be allowed to re-enter the USA - even if your visa is still valid!
You are not allowed to travel outside and re-enter the USA after the end date on your DS-2019 Certificate.
If you leave the USA during the period allowed for tourism and travel at the end of your programme, your programme is automatically terminated
