Congratulations on securing an internship in the United States.
Registering and completing your application is the most important thing you are required to do as part of the application process.
Please make sure you follow each step carefully to ensure you receive the J-1 Visa in time to begin your internship.
Try to get your application in as soon as possible!
Easy Steps to getting your J-1 Visa
Step 1: Register for an online account
Use the form on this page to register. Within 2 working days our team will create an online application for you within the CIEE BEACON system and you’ll be able to move to Step 2
Step 2: Invite your US Supervisor to BEACON
Log into BEACON and invite your US Host Company supervisor (see instructions below). This allows them to begin the DS-7002 Training Plan, which is essential for your legal sponsorship
Step 3: Complete Profile and Upload Documents
Log into BEACON and invite your US Host Company supervisor (see instructions below). This allows them to begin the DS-7002 Training Plan, which is essential for your legal sponsorship

Step 4: Review “and sign your online Training Plan (DS-7002)
Log into BEACON and invite your US Host Company supervisor (see instructions below). This allows them to begin the DS-7002 Training Plan, which is essential for your legal sponsorship
Step 5: Confirm Program Dates and Pay Fees
Email your intended US arrival and departure dates to IST Plus. Once confirmed, you will receive a payment request. Fees are based on your total time in the USA.
Step 6: CIEE Review and SEVIS Issuance
CIEE reviews your DS-7002 and vetting documents. Once approved, your SEVIS ID and DS-2019 will be generated and visible in your BEACON portal.
Step 7: book and Attend Embassy Interview
Complete the DS-160 and pay the $185 MRV fee. Attend your face-to-face interview at the US Embassy in London or the Consulate in Belfast with your physical DS-2019.

Step 1: Register for an account
The first thing you need to do is to register for an account using the online form below.
Once you’ve completed this, it will be sent through to our team in the UK who will check the details and create an account for you in the CIEE BEACON application portal.
When we’ve done this, you’ll get an automated email from CIEE (check your junk and spam if you don’t receive this) with login information.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll also need to make sure you download and complete your Supporting Documents - you’ll need to upload these into your CIEE BEACON account.
You’ll find these under the online registration on this page - don’t forget to complete them as we won’t be able to move forward with an application without them!
Required Supporting Documents
As well as completing the online application, you will also need to upload some supporting documents - including Proof of Univeristy Status, Passport ID page and your signed Fees Disclosure.

Proof of Student Status Form
*This must be completed, signed and stamped by any member of staff at your university.
If they are unable to complete this, they must provide you with a letter on headed paper (signed) confirming the same information -
Online Fees Disclosure
This will open an online form in a new tab where you can enter your details and sign using your computer, phone or tablet.
Once completed, this will create a PDF file of your Fees Disclosure that you can upload into the DOCUMENTS section of your online application.

English Ability Form
*Proof of English Ability is only required for NON UK/ IRISH/ AUSTRALIAN/ NEW ZEALAND passport Holders.
Even if you consider yourself to be a native English speaker, if your country of citizenship does not have English as its primary language you will need to add this to your application. Any member of staff at your university can complete this.

Financial Guarantor Letter
If your internship in the US is unpaid or pays less than $1500/ month, you will need a parent or guarantor to complete and sign this.
You will need to upload this into the FINANCIAL INFORMATION section of your online application.

What do I need to so if there is no obvious link between the Internship and my degree?
If your internship is not directly related to your degree course, you will need to provide a letter from a university tutor outlining the link to studies and why this is related to your subject.
You should also provide transcripts or an official list of modules that show relevance to your academic studies.
If you are unable to provide documentary evidence of a link to your studies, you should not apply for the programme

To invite your Supervisor you’ll need the following information:
The full name of your US Host Company
Your US Host Company Supervisor name
Their position at the US Host Company
Their contact email and telephone number
Your intended internship dates
Don’t forget to hit Submit to International Rep when you’re done - or we won’t get your Supervisor details!
